CHARACTERS
CHARACTERS: Jem
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: He is a horse boy, which is why he nominated himself to lead this mission. Paramedic/responder training, handy in a fight, etc. A little annoying to travel in high-stakes situations with because he's very much like "idk we'll figure it out" about things, but he's also cool and level-headed enough that he usually can figure it out.
Quick Recap: Unimaginably busy managing things at Prescott and being de facto nominated for sheriff even though he didn't volunteer, both of which were contributing factors to his decision to bail for awhile to meet various horses in the wilderness.
Horse: Jem's horse is a black mustang stallion with no markings named Ace. He is a remarkably chill horse who isn't easily spooked or reactive, which has made him a good partner to Jem in his work as a Responder. While Jem is not typically sentimental about working animals, he loves this horse like a child.
Anything Else? Jem also has Bandana Dog with him.
CHARACTERS: Dutch
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: Sniping, scouting, zombie-hunting, firearms maintenance, etc.
Quick Recap: Being uncharacteristically helpful with the Lowl project, although she is also still up to her usual delinquent mischief and pranks. She has been Roswell's unofficial assistant since he took on the foreman job and has been hanging out with him a lot in particular.
Horse: Dutch is on Celia Wallace's former horse, a palomino pinto mare named Calamity Jane. In a different life, this horse would've been a trail ride pony, and is very sweet-tempered. She does like to ignore weak-willed riders in favor of looking for snacks, though, and sometimes Dutch loses control of her. Dutch enjoys braiding the horses' manes and Calamity Jane's is always done up fancy.
Anything Else? Dutch also has her German Shepherd dog Uzi with her.
CHARACTERS: Reggie
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: Paramedic/firefighter/responder trainingβwill not, under ANY circumstances, let a campfire go untended or be poorly extinguished. Intense need to lead, organize, and boss people around. Farm girl upbringing and responder life means horse experience. Can handle a gun and carries a handy dandy fanny pack. Dangerously efficient.
Quick Recap: Big focus on getting the supercommunity up and running because she claimed that as her responsibility. Feels 0.5% closure now that Skullface is dead, needs something else to fill the void so she doesn't think too much. Still yells and works a lot.
Horse: Dusty is a bay Welsh pony gelding, with a white star and stripe on his face and two white socks on his front feet. A stubborn shithead who tries to roll over on most new riders or knock them off on trees. Tries to bite you when you cinch his saddle and Reggie thinks that's hilarious.
Anything Else? Get this girl out of the ruins of her hometown for once in her life.
CHARACTERS: Carter
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills:Sharpshooting, zombie hunting, negotiating (sorta), rich girl equestrian skills, wildly resourceful, calm under pressure, approx three halves of four different masters' degrees if that also helps.
Quick Recap: Carter is emerging from a long winter where she was laser-focused on the Fort's upkeep. Safe to say she went kind of insular/full hermit for a little. Now that she's back in society, she isn't sold on the Summit's offer but is leaning toward it. These days she mostly leads groups of Deadhunters around to ensure safety in light of increased zombie presence.
Horse:JJ will you give me a horse please it's Carter so it can be bad!!
Anything Else? Potato is also here!
CHARACTERS: Court
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: Does being a friggin' riot & a half count?? Paramedic/responder training are at the top of the list, as well as she's a decent survivalist after years of hiking and backpacking. Perhaps this is how she finally gets to show her fishing expertise!! Isn't some crack shot, though knows her way around a gun rather well by now. Though any situation with secondhand embarrassment will end in her nervously chuckling, Court's always good to lighten the mood, while still knowing when to buckle done and Get Shit Doneβ’οΈ Knows how to both take a punch and throw one. She's real tall so can grab things off of high shelves.
Quick Recap: Court has continued to be everywhere, plausibly overworking herself in pursuit of making sure she gets as much done as physically possible. She's been for the super community since it was first brought up, so for sure had been largely contributing there when not throwing herself wholeheartedly into responder training/mentoring at Prescott. We're also saying she got her health initiative off the ground and voluntarily stole people's blood and gave them basic health screenings, if they wanted.
Horse: Vega is a chestnut blanket appaloosa with a star (like so). Court showed up late and got saddled with a difficult spare horse, though thankfully only when you try to ride her! Vega is the sweetest thing ever if you're off her, but riding her is an entirely different story. The closest thing Court can compare it to was the time she drove a giant tractor-trailer for a move, in that it was kind of like driving a regular vehicle except you don't blink and always expect the unexpected; Vega does horse-like things, just not necessarily in the order most other equine would. There's a found blue jay feather braided into her mane.
Anything Else?
Court has made a bet with someone(s) about how many concussions and/or dislocated joints Jem suffers during this adventure; any takers?
CHARACTERS: Beau
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: Zombie killing. Mechanic. Decent rider. Responder training. Kind of a princess about camp duties but she sees this as doing Reggie a favor. She needs the extra work.
Quick Recap: Beau completed responder training and divides her time between being the Fort's resident first aid and going on call. Mostly (!) law-abiding. Winter was tough and she's worried about the long-term sustainability of the Fort, but is pretty reluctant to give up their independence.
Horse: Beau claimed Jellybean, one of Prescott's newcomers, because they are both "green, stubborn and a little bit of a bully to the boys." They're well-suited to each other, although Beau really could do more to discourage Jellybean's bad habits.
Anything Else? Shares custody of Potato. Inseparable from Carter during this journey.
CHARACTERS: Arlo
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: firefighter/responder/mechanic. can fix anything with anything. lifts heavy things. fistfights. hunting. eating the stuff nobody else wants to so it won't go to waste.
Quick Recap: sleeping indoors and that's all anyone can really ask for. he's put a lot of pressure on himself to be a good example as a member of command to a rapidly growing station and it's not a role he was ever a natural at -- he's been buckling, quietly but surely, and he was among the first to sign up for horsequest as a result. he's given a lot of gruntwork time to the lowl development.
Horse: arlo's official prescott horse is a chestnut blanket appaloosa called pilot. named for cowcatchers, this extremely sweet and stupid gelding has been known to plow through small groups of zombies. he'll lick anything if he's left to stand still for more than 3 seconds.
Anything Else? he's using "pardner" too liberally
CHARACTERS: Duke
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: Good with animals, good with booby traps, good attitude π He likes to be helpful and will pretty much do anything you ask of him, which is kind of like a skill. He's very good at roughing it and won't complain.
Quick Recap: Working hard at being a good citizen (mostly) and keeping the Fort safe and comfy during the winter!! Duke is not a therapist but has been trying to convince people to talk about their feelings more recently, which I'm sure has been VERY hit or miss. He's excited about horses.....
Horse: "Duke is on a red dun quarter horse gelding named Buddy who belongs to Keller (Prescott NPC, the former mall cop that nobody likes). An energetic horse that sometimes bucks when he gets too excited. He does not like having his hooves picked and sometimes kicks during grooming. Keller warns Duke about both of these things before loaning him the horse." Via JJ, ty -3-
Anything Else? Trying to be best friends with every horse.
CHARACTERS: Calliope
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: foremost: scavenging, sneaky scouting, fixing your sidekick (for a fee). deadhunter, firearms handling, poker face, cartography (she keeps that one to herself and fort folk for as long as she can).
Quick Recap: she put her name in for security councilman because nobody was allowed to stop her. mostly she's kept to the fort aside from the couple other people she'd imprinted on. she kept herself busy by tricking out the sidekick network and painting murals on the containers, and lurking whenever possible. she's been working on her lasso skills ever since quaid showed her the ropes. (ha!)
Horse: (by jj!!) "Calliope is on an Abernathy loaner, a dapple grey Missouri Fox Trotter mare named Poet. This was the personal pet/riding horse of Mr. Abernathy's teenage granddaughter Hannah Abernathy before the outbreak and she cried when the caravan members took temporary possession of her. This horse has a breed characteristic smooth trotting gait, which makes her especially pleasant to ride for long distances, especially for a beginner rider. She is sweet and even-tempered, but doesn't particularly care for Calliope's crow friends and nips or tail-swats them if they try to land on her."
Anything Else? apparently up to 10 crows are around at any time but 10 seems excessive tbh. they leave little gifts around camp in the mornings.
Re: CHARACTERS: Calliope
CHARACTERS: Jazz
Jasper LiollioJazzApplication Link: Here
Useful Skills: Long-distance runner, decent at scavenging and foraging (though double check to make sure those berries aren't poisonous...), doesn't know much about horses but isn't going to complain if he's assigned some less glamorous jobs in taking care of them, he is Strong Like Ox from years of various sports, so likewise can be given less desirable camp chores that are either heavy or tedious. Knows his way around a gun, but prefers to go melee with his beloved machete-attached-to-a-hockey-blade. Full of stupid puns, though some may see this as the opposite of useful.
Quick Recap: While never involved with the Peace Summit, Jazz has very much been taking advantage of the communities opening up, even if it means there's a seemingly endless stream of deliveries to deliver. Has lent a hand towards the building of the Lowl super community and joined in on Horsequest on a whim, rather than being well-suited to this undertaking.
Horse: Got assigned Ares' horse Icarus. Is for some reason convinced she is a he. Golden palomino (cause she fly too close to the sun, duh), and a rather sweet disposition who doesn't mind things such as putting a pumpkin on her head so you can pretend to be the Headless Horseman; Jazz takes advantage of this by constantly changing out the wildflowers in her sloppily braided mane.
Anything Else? He wants to be best friends with everyone on Horsequest regardless of their personal feelings on this :3
CHARACTERS: Jessa
Application Link: Here
Useful Skills: Large animal vet experience, knows how to read animals pretty well. Foraging, cooking, fishing (mostly self-taught). Grew up riding horses. Knowledge of the area around Pocatello.
Quick Recap: Living alone in a hunting cabin in the woods. Everyone around her died and she's spent the last several months just surviving and trying to ignore the hopelessness of her situation.
Horse: Jessa gets Peanut Brittle: "Chestnut leopard appaloosa cold. Affectionate and silky. Will nip your butt when you're trying to clean his hooves and likes to toss his hay and buckets around to entertain himself." She fucking loves him.
Anything Else? What luck for them to run into a vet in the wilderness!!
